We had a great time in Palermo (Italy), during the ISF World School Championship Orienteering. The event, which took place from April the 22nd to the 28th, involved school teams from all around the world. The participants’ only equipment? Compasses and maps!

The event was organized by the International School Sport Federation (ISF) and the Italian School Sport Federation with the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) in partnership with Kinder+Sport.
Its main aim has been to promote the cohesion and sporting competition between students from schools at a global level, helping them to better understand sport and physical activity.

Additionally, the 2017 edition of the World School Championship Orienteering has set a record: 800 athletes from 27 national delegations, for a total of 146 teams. Austria, the German speaking community of Belgium, the French speaking community of Belgium, the Flemish speaking community of Belgium, the People's Republic of China, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine: they’ve all gathered under the sun of Sicily.

The athletes faced different challenges: long distance, medium distance, and “friendship teams”. The first two set in the evocative Bosco della Ficuzza, while the latter involved the historic city centre of Palermo.

Seven days devoted to the discovery of the Joy of Moving, which we have enjoyed with the utmost participation.
